The continuum hypothesis
ADM Society Seminar, London, February 2026
Abstract: The Continuum Hypothesis (CH) says there is no set which is larger in size than the natural numbers and smaller in size than the real numbers. In this talk I’ll begin with some introductory set theory to help better understand the statement of CH. Then I’ll give some statements that are equivalent to CH to show something about its place in mathematics. Finally I’ll talk non-rigourously about why CH is said to be neither true nor false but “independent”.
